Nelda Dietz, 100, of rural Piper City, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 10, 2017) at Miller Nursing Home, Kankakee.

Nelda was born Jan. 7, 1917 in Kempton, a daughter of Nathaniel and Cleo Browning West. She married Martin Dietz on Nov. 29, 1941 in Cullom. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1996.

Surviving are two sons, Martin (Karen) Dietz and Stanley (Janeen) Dietz; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Geraldine West; two godchildren, Bob Dietz and Kathy Boeckmann and many nieces and nephews.

Nelda was also preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

Nelda graduated from Herscher High School in 1934, and was a 1940 graduate of St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. She became a registered nurse and later a licensed nursing home administrator. She worked for two years at St. Luke’s Hospital, Chicago, and later for 9½ years at Central Hospital, Clifton. She retired as administrator of American Health Care Center, Kankakee, after 13½ years. Nelda was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of Citizens of Cullom and AARP. Nelda was a former member of St. Luke’s Alumni Association. Nelda loved reading, sewing and refinishing antique and collectible furniture.
