Danny Ray Mitchell, born into this world on January 30, 1959 became a special son to Curtis and Mary Mitchell when he was five months old. Danny passed from this life to his heavenly home on January 11th, 2017 after a period of illness.

Danny grew up on their family farm working in the tobacco fields, playing in the sand and taking all of his toy trucks apart and putting them back together again. Danny's natural intelligence and ability grew into an amazing mechanical mind.

Danny's trucker handle for his CB radio proved to be the perfect description for his life's journey "Drifter".

Danny lived on the farm after graduating from North Stokes High School in 1977. He learned the love of tractor-trailer rigs and all the places they could take him.

Danny settled and lived in Alabama for fifteen years, where for much of his time there he dispatched freight until he decided to roll on in an 18 wheeler and eventually ended up in California before returning to Stokes County. Danny retired from Winston Weaver Fertilizer after many years of service.

Danny enjoyed nature and as he mentioned recently he loved to work.
The friends Danny made during his lifetime were many. He had a love of animals including his herd of cattle, family of dogs and cats that he shared with his special friend, Kirsten Harper.

Danny was predeceased by his parents in 2011.

Danny leaves behind many friends and neighbors who loved him dearly. He is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and son Danny Rain.

A memorial service will be held in Danny's memory on Friday, January 13th at 5:00 pm at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, Virginia with Pastor Shaun Draughn officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be private and at a later date.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Samuel Newsome, Danny's physician of many years, to the staff of ICCU at Forsyth Medical Center, the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center and the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem for their kind and considerate care.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Stokes County Humane Society, 1010 Barn Road, Walnut Cove, NC 27052 who so graciously fostered his puppies for adoption when Danny became ill. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, at Burke Memorial Park.
