He was born on May 19, 1923 in Dahlgren, the son of James Ola and Grace Lillian (Leslie) Allen. On May 9, 1943 he married Alberta Mae Brock in Perry County, Missouri.
Evan was an Army Veteran of World War II. He attended SIU Carbondale, graduated from the University of Illinois, and received his Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. He taught agriculture and general science courses in Tower Hill and Stonington for many years and also worked as a crop adjuster for Country Companies. He served as an FFA advisor for many years.
Evan was a founding member of the Stonington and Tower Hill Lions Club and a member of the Old Stonington Baptist Church. In his free time he enjoyed camping and fishing, and above all, loved the time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Alberta Allen of Stonington; children, Everett Young Allen (Janet) of Pana, Rodney Lee Allen (Rhea) of Stonington, Kevin James Allen (Daniel Menzies) of Champaign, Stephen Ray Allen (Adriana) of Taylorville; grandchildren, Randy Allen, Richard Allen, Ronald Allen, Rena Burkhart, Danny Cook, Jenny Fikan, Brian Allen, Craig Allen, Chad Allen, Zachary Allen, Christian Allen, Selah Allen, Kamila Allen, Kristina Allen, and Evan Allen; 15 great-grandchildren; and 11 great- great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ivan Leslie Allen; granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Allen; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
The funeral service for Evan will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Old Stonington Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Bob Howard and Rev. Joel Lohr officiating. Burial will be in the Old Stonington Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville and from 10 until the service Friday in the church. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Old Stonington Baptist Church or to the FFA for a scholarship fund.
