"Stefan Gogol, 82, of East 26th Street, died Sunday, January 3, 1999, at the Austinburg Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was born July 8, 1916, in Drzierzkowski, Poland, the son of Wojciech and Franciszka (Zawadzki) Gogol.

He attended Liceum Krzemienieckie School, where he participated in Olympics training, most notably in the biathlon and ski jumping. He received two years Politecneque in Lwow, and two years at the University of England.

After three years in a Siberian concentration camp, he became a cadet officer for the Polish Army in the Middle East. He joined the Polish Air Force, later serving as a first lieutenant in British Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Gogol was first employed as a tool designer and draftsman for several Ashtabula companies, and retired as a manufacturing engineering manager at Astatic in Conneaut after 27 years. He also did electrical engineering and architecture. He was a member of St. Joseph Church.

Survivors include his wife, Claudine (Kirk), whom he married August 18, 1945, in England; six daughters, Franciszka Gogol and Claudune McMillion, both of Madison, Danuta Gogol of Chargrin Falls, Sabina Henretta of Ravenna, Stefania Loveridge and Kristyna Keenan, both of Ashtabula; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Emilia Radecki of Toronto, Canada.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Valenty, Vincentry, Roman and Stefan as a child; and a sister Zofia Ciempiel.

Mass of a Christian burial was at St. Joseph Church, 3300 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, the Rev. Bernard Gaeta officiated. Entombment was at Greenlawn Mausoleum, North Kingsville, Ohio."
