Joseph John Baxter was born on
3 December 1946, in Coral Gables,
Florida to James and Nora Baxter.
After battling cancer for 10 years,
he passed away peacefully at his
home in Charlotte, NC on 6 January
2017. He was 70 years old. Joe was
graduated from Charlotte Catholic
High School in June 1964 and
Belmont Abbey College in 1968.
Joe and Christine married in 1969
in Charlotte, NC. Joe enrolled and
proudly served as a First Lieutenant
in the United States Army.
During his time in the armed service,
he bravely fought as an officer in
the Vietnam War. Joe was Honorably
Discharged in 1971.
He also earned a master's degree
from the USC. Joe started his
professional career in Winston-
Salem, NC with Merrill Lynch. He was
soon promoted to the training
department in New York City.
Joe found his true calling when
he became the National Sales
Trainer for Smith Barney in 1981.
Joe spent the next 10 years training
countless amounts of financial advisers
and managers where he earned his
nickname "The Coach".
Joe was always committed to colleagues
in his professional life, but his heart
was dedicated to his family. Joe and
Christine had three boys - Peter, John,
and James.
He rarely missed a sports game and
coached whenever possible.
The Baxter's moved back to Charlotte
in 1991 when he joined Interstate
Johnson Lane. Joe worked through all
the banks mergers and retired with
Wells Fargo after 27 years of service
in December of 2015.
He positively impacted the lives of all
those he encountered and trained over
6000 individuals during his successful
career.
Joe Baxter will be remembered as a
kind, caring, and compassionate
individual.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of
47 years, Christine Baxter, their
three sons, Peter Baxter, his wife,
Tracey; John Baxter, his wife Cindy
Baxter, and James Baxter.
They also have seven grandchildren,
Alaric, Magnus, Anastasia, Moira,
Aoife, Cole, and Quinn Baxter.
