As a teenager, he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a US Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War. In 1962, he married Carol Fassinger and together they raised their three children. After 26 years with the NYSDOT, he retired and they relocated to West Palm Beach, FL and then to Wilmington, NC.
Roy will always be remembered as a tinkerer. He loved roller skating, camping, snowmobiling, playing his banjo and being active in the Boy Scouts for most of his life. During his retirement, he enjoyed square-dancing and being a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a communicant of St. Mark Catholic Church.
Roy is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Carol, and grandson, Timothy Parker. He will be forever missed by his children, Dana (Diana) Parker, Dawn (Robert) Sharp and Tami (Jeff) Parker-Magistro; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; companion, Sandra Ordile; sister, Peggy Lutz; several nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family and friends.
Roy was an incredible man, whose love for his family and friends, will undoubtedly incite all who knew him to cherish his memory forever.
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Andrews Market Street Chapel.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2pm Friday, January 13, 2017, at St. Mark Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Burbeck officiating. Inurnment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
