Janet Elizabeth Haas Fortna (November 18, 1939 – January 9, 2017)
Janet was born in Fairbury, IL, November 18, 1939. The daughter of Fred William Haas and Caroline Meiss Kuenzi Haas. She married Paul E. Fortna on April 3, 1960 at the First United Methodist Church, Forrest, IL. Janet is survived by her husband Paul and two daughters, Denise Cloud of Urbana, and Deanne Jones of Decatur. Also surviving her are four grandsons, a granddaughter, five great granddaughters, and a great grandson.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Fred Haas Jr. of Avon Park, Florida.
Janet was a 1957 graduate of Forrest-Straw-Wing High School and was an employee of Colwell Company / Patterson Dental from which she retired in 2004. Janet and her husband Paul owned and operated two Baskin-Robbins ice cream franchises in the Champaign area from 1979 to 1988. Janet was an active member of Countryside United Methodist Church, Urbana; she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, hiking with her husband in the Arizona dessert, visiting state and national parks, traveling in their motor home, and spending their winters in the Sarasota, Florida area.
A celebration of Janet’s life will take place in the spring. Memorials may be directed to Countryside United Methodist Church, Urbana; or Even Glow Lodge, Pontiac, IL.
