Jerry Thomas Hodges, 88, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017 in Valley View, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, January 12, 2017 in the chapel at Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park, Texas with Pastor Don Yeager, Floral Heights United Methodist Church officiating. Graveside services will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Wichita Falls, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6-7 PM on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the funeral home. Jerry was born July 10, 1928 to William and Mattie Oliver (Goodlett) Hodges in Valley View and was the 6th of 7 children. He graduated in 1946 from Valley View High School and attended Oklahoma A&M and Midwestern State University. He was a farmer and rancher all of his life. Jerry was a boy Scout Troop 39 and achieved the Life Award, attending camps in New Mexico and Texas. Jerry was an elected officer and member of the Iowa Park A.S.C.S., supporter of the Waco Children's Home, Valley View Church officer and a member of Floral Heights United Methodist Church since 1984. Jerry was a charter member and fireman of the Valley View Fire Department for many years. He was a calf roper and won First Place in the World Team Roping, which was held in Iowa Park. He was a big supporter of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed guns and bow activities. Jerry married Donna Bowden of Electra, Texas on April 16, 1964 in Archer City, Texas. He participated in his daughters activities, attending 4-H and school activities. Surviving relatives include his wife of 52 years, Donna Hodges of Valley View; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Mark Anderson of Holliday and Jolene and Tony Cavalle of Lantana, Texas; grandchildren, Sara and Thomas Anderson and Lola and Maggie Cavalle. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and three sisters. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, TX 76309. The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful workers of Hospice of Wichita Falls.
