David was born on January 24, 1957 in Ontario, Oregon. He attended grade school in Payette, ID and junior high and high school in the Seattle Washington area. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Federal Way after which he studied Political Science at Seattle Pacific University. He married Vicki Jennings in 1977 and together they had a daughter Katrina in 1978 and a son David Jr. in 1979. They later divorced.
David had an entrepreneurial spirit and after working as a crane operator, shoe salesman, and a manager at Rainier State School for the Disabled he finally decided to start his own business. He opened a coffee stand and named it Espresso Yoself. At the same time he owned a farm and raised pigs, chickens and horses. Several years after moving back to Idaho he embarked on his real estate career with Keller Williams Realty Boise.
