Memorial service: A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017, in the Sanctuary of University Christian Church in Fort Worth. Betty will be put to rest in Midland alongside her loving husband, Fred, in a private service.
Betty was born Dec. 15, 1930, in Midland, but spent most of her youth in Abilene. She attended Texas Tech University where she was a member of DFD Sorority. She continued her education at McMurry College where she received a Bachelor of Sciences degree in 1951. That same year she married Fred Calvin Sides. This union was blessed with three children and lasted 50 years until Fred's passing in 2007.
She had a 29 year career as a dedicated teacher and acted as head administrator of Hillander School in Midland until she retired in 1993. She will be fondly remembered by so many of her students whom she inspired at an early age.
In 2007, Betty relocated to Fort Worth to be near family. She made many new lifelong friendships that she treasured and brought her great joy. She was a member of University Christian Church and was active in Bible Study and Christ Care.
Betty's passions included reading, movies, music, playing bridge and socializing with her many friends.
Survivors: Sister, Kay Cowden and husband Jax; three children, Debra Williams and husband, Rich, Fred Sides and wife, Patty, Sharon Broyles and husband, Robert; five grandchildren, whom she cherished and were the source of infinite joy and pride, Vanessa Williams and Andrew Williams, Cooper Sides, Katheryn Viera and husband, Mason, Ben Broyles and Sarah Broyles; two great-grandchildren, Blaine and McKayla Czerwonka; and also several nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the physicians and staff of Texas Health Harris Methodist Southwest Hospital.
