Rebecca “Becky” Woods, 59, of Portal gained her angel wings Saturday morning, January 7, 2017, at her residence in Portal. She was born in Statesboro on February 1, 1957 to John Marland “Son” Woods and Lena Rexrode Woods. She graduated from Portal High School in 1975. She continued her education at Georgia Southern University and received a Master’s degree in Education.

 Becky was the first Director of Head Start in Candler County and served for three years. She then taught school in Tattnall County for many years. She began her career at Candler County Concerted Services in 2010. She presently held the position as Director’s Assistant until her death. Becky loved working with the seniors and her co-workers as CSI.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister, Amanda Woods Olliff, her paternal grandparents, W.W. Woods and Fannie Williams Woods, and her maternal grandparents, Joe and Carrie Rexrode.

 She is survived by her son, Steve Marland Lowery (Kelly) of Register; two sisters, Judy Woods Telesky (Johnny Morris) of Portal and Carolyn Woods Oxenrider (Ken) of Savannah; and her devoted cousin, Angela Williford of Portal. She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, and other family members, and her special pet, Yapper.

 Becky was high spirited, fun loving, and always made the people she loved laugh. She was very dedicated and was always there for the ones that needed her. You were always surprised by her comments and reactions. Everybody was amused by Becky and loved her. She loved gospel music and going to “All Night” gospel sings. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She enjoyed attending the Williford Christmas and other family gatherings this past Christmas. She will be missed by many.

 The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.

 The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 11, at 11 a.m. at Portal Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating, assisted by Rev. Don Berry. Interment will follow in Portal City Cemetery.

 The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the service.

 Pallbearers will be Shon Olliff, Matthew Sykes, Griff Donaldson, Joshua Donaldson, Joe Williams, and Todd Williford. Honorary pallbearers will be her co-workers at CSI and the seniors.

 The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 5105 Paulsen Street, Savannah, GA 31405, and the Candler County Concerted Services, 430 N Rountree St, Metter, GA 30439.
