"Vern Smith, 70, of Corry, RD 1, died Saturday afternoon in Corry Memorial Hospital. He was born July 16, 1883 (sic) [1893], in Spring Creek Township, the son of Roscoe and May Damon Smith. On Oct 22, 1919, he married Mildred Bartholme. She died Feb 10, 1964. Mr Smith was a member of the West Spring Creek Congregational Church and the Sparta Grange. Mr Smith is survived by four sons: Norman of Corry, RD 1, Paul of Spring Creek, Jack of Warnersville and Vern, Jr, of Clarion; and 10 grandchildren. Friends will be received....at the H Richard Hays Funeral Home in Spartansburg and may attend the funeral service there at 2 pm Tuesday. Rev Robert Pier, pastor of the West Spring Creek Congregational Church, will officiate. Interment will be in West Spring Creek Cemetery."
