Diane Barkley Burton, 60, of Salisbury, NC passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Diane was born in Columbus, GA on October 10, 1956 to Fred and Shirley Holcomb Barkley. She was educated in the Iredell County School system. After high school, Diane attended Western Carolina University where she received a teaching degree in early childhood education and where she met her husband Bob. Her teaching career began in the Swain County system and continued in the Rowan Salisbury system at Morgan Elementary school. After teaching for 30 years, Diane retired in 2010.
Diane loved the outdoors, camping in the mountains, fishing at Topsail Beach and traveling to new places. She loved working in the yard with flowers and small garden. However, cruising to the Bahamas and Caribbean quickly became her favorite activity.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 39 years Bob, mother Shirley, 2 sons; Bobby Jr (Holly) (grandson Logan) and Ben, sister; Donna Donaldson (daughters Madison and Holly) and brother, Robert Jr. Diane is preceded in death by her father Robert Fred “Pete” Barkley.
Visitation will be on Thursday January 12, 2017 from 12:00 to 1:30 pm at Summersett Funeral Home with a graveside service at Rowan memorial Park starting at 2:00 pm. Pastor Tim Roten officiating.
