Obituary of Mary Ann Wheatley

Mary Ann Wheatley 80, of Leesville, Mo., died late Saturday night, January 7, 2017, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo.

She was born February 29, 1936, in Lexington, Mo., the daughter of Ernest Glenwood Galloway and Gladys Olive (Knapman) Galloway. At a young age, she started living with her uncle and aunt, Bill and Mamie Hayes. She went to several grade schools around the Kansas City area.

In 1951, the family moved to Tightwad, Mo., and she attended the old Tightwad School and in May 1954 she graduated from Clinton High School, Clinton, Mo. She worked for the International Shoe factory in Windsor where she met her husband, Marion F. Wheatley. They were married November 9, 1956 and had 54 years and 8 months together and to this union 6 children were born.

In July 1948, she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and continued to serve him all her life. She was a member of the Black Oak Community Church, Lincoln, Mo. Her hobbies were reading, doing puzzle books, embroidery and watching her stories on television which included The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful and the Price Is Right. Her life was completely centered around the love she had for all her family.

Survivors include 6 children, Barbara Howell and husband Wayne, Windsor, Mo.; Cathy Wheatley, Windsor, Mo.; Stephen Wheatley and wife Selina, Leesville, Mo.; Gerry Wheatley and wife Lori, Windsor, Mo.; Valorie Wheatley, Windsor, Mo.; and Jeff Wheatley and wife Ashley, Leesville, Mo.; 6 grandchildren, Shanna Howell, Caleb Wheatley, Zachary Wheatley, Jaina Wheatley, Laira Wheatley, Jake Wheatley; a step-grandson, Brandon Westpheling; a great-granddaughter, Josie Howell; 2 great-grandsons, Braydon Wheatley and Clayton Wheatley; 2 sisters, Joyce Brown and husband Elmer and Mamie Galloway, both of Cole Camp, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Betty Galloway, Peculiar, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt and uncle; her husband Marion Wheatley; a grandson, Eric Wheatley; 5 brothers, Glennie Galloway, Fred Galloway, Jake Galloway, Sherman Galloway and Vernon Galloway; and 5 sisters, Rhonda Frencken, Ursula Snelling, Gladys Galloway, Nancy Wilson and Jean Nichols.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Rev. Murlin Anstine officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in memory of Mary Ann and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
