Patrick was the son of Patrick McDonald and Anna Onally. He married Mary Croak on Jan 6, 1876 in Guthrie Co, IA. They were the parents of 7 children: Edward L (1878), James W (1880), Frank P (1881, Jeanett Mosteller), John C (1886, Anna McCarthy), Anna Alice (1889), Mary Agnes (1896, Leo McGuire), and a son who died before 1900.


BAYARD ADVOCATE - Thursday, July 26th, 1917 - Patrick J McDonald was born in Carbondale, Luzern Co, PA July 4, 1852 and died in Bayard, Guthrie Co, IA July 18, 1917, aged 65 years and 14 days.

When 4 years old, his parents came to Des Moines in April 1856, and in September of the same year they moved to Highland township where he remained until his death.

In the year 1877 he was married to Miss Mary Agnes Croak and to this union 7 children were born, five sons and two daughters, two of these are dead, one son and one daughter. The other four sons and one daughter together with their mother are left to mourn his death.

In his death the wife has lost an affectionate husband, his children an indulgent father, the community a good neighbor and the state a good citizen.

The funeral services were held Friday morning from St. Patrick's Catholic church and interment made in the Catholic cemetery north of town.

Coon Rapids Enterprise - Fri, Jul 27, 1917 - Patrick McDonald of Bayard, brother of Edward McDonald, died at is home in a yard last week, a number from Coon Rapids attending the funeral. He was a genial sociable man and of splendid impulses and successful. He had been in failing health for a year or more before his death.
