Carlton E. Regis, 85, of Main Street, passed away Friday (Jan. 6, 2017) at Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital.
Born July 1, 1931, in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Elvin G. and Lena Gadsby Regis. On Feb. 4, 1951, he married Dorothy E. Everitt, who passed away on Feb. 24, 2008.
Mr. Regis was a graduate of Otto High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the 25th Recon of the U.S. Army as a tank driver. He was employed by Ethan Allen Furniture in Eldred for 46 years prior to retiring in 1996.
Carlton was a long-time member and former vice president of the Eldred Conservation Club, the Olean Rod and Gun Club, and was active in several skeet and trap shooting leagues in the area. He was also a member of the Port Allegany VFW, Eldred American Legion Post 887 and the First National Bowling League of Olean.
As well as being an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, he was an avid gun collector and an avid bowler in his younger years. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Stephen M. (Margaret) Regis of Davidson, N.C.; two daughters, Carla J. (Jack) Bell of Eldred and Kay Ann (Martin) Bechelli of Rixford; five grandchildren, Todd (Shelley) Regis, Erik (Janelle McGhee) Regis, Mackenna (John) Bickford, Jacee Bell and Tim Bell; two great-grandsons, Jalen Nixon and Orion Bickford; a brother, Raymond "Gab" Regis of Duke Center; a brother-in-law, Dick Silvis of Duke Center; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Rick Price officiating. Burial will follow in Duke Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldred Conservation Club; Duke Center United Methodist Church; or Otto Township Firehall.
