Shirley J. Ackerman, 87, of Red Hook, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20th, 2012 at the Baptist Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. Born on October 15, 1924, in Akron, OH, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Marion (Near) Bacon. She was one of ten children, a sister; Helen Stephens and a brother; Robert Bacon survive. On January 9th, 1946 she married Albert A. Ackerman in Elkton, MD. He predeceased her on June 16, 2010 and they were married for 64 years. Shirley worked for Stardust in Poughkeepsie and the Rhinebeck Country School for many years. Her passion was her home and her yard. She took great pride in both. She is survived by a son; Albert A. Ackerman, three daughters; Debra A. Grant, Emily N. Evans, and Melissa A. Gantner, and twelve grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter; Irene P Roger, and a grandson; Brett B. Evans. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 23rd, 2012 at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. The Reverend Fred C. Cartier will officiate. Burial will be at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
