Marjorie L. Carpenter of Burden Avenue, Attleboro Falls, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro, surrounded by her devoted family. She was the wife of Roger Carpenter for 39 years before his death in 1982.
Born Jan. 5, 1921 in Weymouth, she was a daughter of the late Burton and Helen (Pratt) Doble.
Marjorie grew up in Weymouth and was a graduate of Weymouth High School. She lived for many years in Wrentham before moving to Attleboro Falls in 1960.
Marjorie worked as a secretary at VH Blackington in Attleboro Falls for many years and had previously worked at the Foxboro Company. After high school, she was proud to have worked at the Christian Science Reading Room in Boston for several years.
Marjorie grew up in the Christian Science faith and later was a longtime attendant at the Central Congregational Church in Attleboro Falls. She was a volunteer at the Hockomock YMCA and an original member of their Live Y’ers group, serving as secretary.
She is survived by five children and their spouses: Janet Jackson of Deland, Fla., Susan Pina and husband Glenn of Marshfield, Deborah LeBlanc and husband Lawrence of North Attleboro, Lynn Lapointe and husband Ronald of North Attleboro, and Mark Carpenter and wife Melinda of Tennessee; a sister, Jane Caldwell of South Hadley; a brother, Burton Doble of Plainville; eight grandchildren: Casey, Matthew, James, Justin, Kerri, Kevin, Jacob, and Jennifer; 18 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was mother of the late Gary Carpenter and sister of the late Robert and Walter Doble, Helen Moran, Muriel Correia, and Dorothy Bennett.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 4-8 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove St., North Attleboro.
A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery & Arboretum, Attleboro Falls.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marjorie’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
