James Andrew Cottrell, 75, was born June 27, 1941 in Oklahoma to Geneva and James Cottrell, and passed away November 14, 2016 at the VA Medical center in Livermore, California. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Army and was awarded a silver medal.


Jim was a very intelligent man who loved reading, was intrigued by science fiction, avid collector of rocks, bottles, stamps and expressed a passion for astronomy and used his telescope often to research stars, planets and when lucky enough found enjoyment through UFO sightings.


Jim was very proud of his children, Andy Cottrell, Laurie and her husband, Cuco Chavez, Rick and his wife, Jessica Saldana; and eight grandchildren, Justin, Rikki, Isaiah, Leah, Prienna, Kiyah, Alana, and baby Cuco; also survived by his former wife and friend, Orfi Cottrell of Hollister; his brother, David and wife, Ginger Cottrell of Washington; his sister, Shirley and husband, Eddie Marentis of Washington; as well as his many nieces, nephews and other friends.


He was predeceased by his parents, and sweet baby sister, Sheila Jean Cottrell.


A celebration of Jim Cottrell's life will be held November 22, 2016 at 11 am at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson funeral home.
