Burial will follow at the Cathedral in the Pines in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Griffin passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at ETMC in Tyler.
She was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Isleta, N.M., to the late Juan Trinidad and Marie Zuni. She was a member of the Westwood Baptist Church.
Delores was a graduate of the Albuquerque Indian School and was a "Fred Harvey Girl" for the Harvey House Restaurant, located on the Santa Fe Railroad in the Albuquerque, Gallup and Grand Canyon area.
She met and married her loving husband, Red Griffin, in 1951. They lived on the Apache and Navajo Indian Reservations in the Southwest for many years before moving to the East Coast. They finally retired in Tyler in 1983.
Delores enjoyed traveling, but most of all her true joy was spending time with her family.
Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother.
Delores is survived by her loving family including her devoted husband of 54 years, Alganeal "Red" Griffin; daughter, Sherri Griffin Turnipseed and husband John of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter, Alganetta Simpson and husband H. David of Tyler; grandchildren, Andrew Turnipseed and wife Kim of Lawton, Okla., Daniel Turnipseed and wife Kara of Virginia Beach, Va., Corey Simpson of Tyler, Kelly Simpson of Tyler; sister, Ms. Jessie Zuni of Isleta, N.M.; five great-grandchildren; surviving Zuni Family; and her loving companion "Topsy."
Pallbearers will be Andrew Turnipseed, Daniel Turnipseed, Alan Bailey, John Steele, John Turnipseed, David Simpson and Corey Simpson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rudy Gimble and the Historical Aviation Memorial Museum.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, 75703.
Memorials in honor of Delores may be made to Church/Charity of your choice.
