She was born May 19, 1930 in Vivian, Louisiana, a daughter of the late Reggie Eugene Harkness and Ludie Mae Harkness. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Wingate, a brother, Eugene Harkness and grandson, Bryan Hutchens.
She was a member of Milford Hills Baptist church and very active in the choir and a member of Harvester’s Sunday School Class. She was a teacher’s assistant at North Rowan Primary School for 14 years until she retired in 1990. She loved to cook for her family and loved to travel with her husband. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang solos at church, weddings and funerals. She loved the Lord, she loved her family and she loved life.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Burnett of 66 years, whom she married on January 2, 1951, her children, Allen Burnett (Gina) of Salisbury, Cindy Pruett (Kenny) of Woodleaf, and Nancy Burnett of Mocksville, three sisters, Mattie Allen, Yvonne McCullough of Belcher, Louisiana and Jeanette Trickett of Shreveport, Louisiana, two brothers, J.C. Harkness of Shreveport, Louisiana and Jimmy Harkness of Belcher, Louisiana, her grandchildren: Kelly Barnhardt (Josh) of Charlotte, Daniel Pruett (Krystan) of Salisbury, Jason Burnett (Kara) of Salisbury, Christine Cousins (Jesse) of Mocksville; 5 great-grandchildren, Emory and Jensen Barnhardt, Vater Pruett, Madison Cousins and Hudson Burnett.
Visitation: 1-2:00 PM Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Milford Hills Baptist Church.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Milford Hills Baptist Church at 2:00 PM conducted by Dr. Bruce Beck with burial to follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
