Rowena Laaba

Rowena Laabs, 78, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Rowena was the daughter of Virginia "Pearl" (nee Walker) and William Boyd Smith. On February 11, 1956, she married James Howard "Scottie" Craig. Their children were Derrick Scott, Rowena Kathryn, and Melissa Dale.
In April of 1965, Scottie was working as a construction foreman and the family was living in a trailer near the site of which he was in charge. There was an explosion in the trailer which caused a fire and killed Rowena's husband and two of their children, Derrick Scott and Rowena Kathryn. Rowena and Melissa escaped, but were badly burned. Rowena second married Mr. Swope, and late in life to Quinten Laaba.
