Mildred Marie Dean, 74, departed this life on Sunday, Jan 8, 2017 at the NEA Baptist Hospital, after a brief illness. Mildred was born on Oct. 16, 1942 in Pocahontas, AR to the late Bill and Verna Murray. She married the late Lavon Dean, also of Pocahontas, where they soon left the life of a farm family and made a life in Rockford, IL. While there, they gave birth to their only son, Tim. In 1974, the family moved back to Pocahontas where they began the first of several entrepreneurial ventures including owning several clothing stores under the Dean name. They also owned the Village Inn Restaurant in Downtown Pocahontas. Upon retirement, she was the kitchen supervisor at Outlook Pointe in Pocahontas. Along the way, having given up graduation for marriage, she earned her GED in which she too had great pride. Nothing was more important to Mildred than her church, Brookland Baptist and her family, which she adored. She and Lavon never missed attending any functions their grandchildren participated in. They attended untold numbers of baseball, softball, volleyball and basketball games routing on their grandchildren, Andy and Alex. As life progressed, Lavon's health began to fail, but no family could look back and be prouder of how a wife cared for her husband. She was also a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, rarely missing a game. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Cindy Dean of Jonesboro, grandchildren, Andy and Rachel Dean of Jonesboro and Alex Dean of Jonesboro. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Isabella Dean and Charlie Dean, both of Jonesboro. Surviving also, are sisters Betty Murray of Pocahontas and Ethel James of Cherokee Village, AR and a host of family and friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents Bill and Verna Murray of Pocahontas, her in-laws, Pringle and Lula Dean of Pocahontas, brother, Carl Murray of Pocahontas, sister-in-law, Johnnie Tribble of Pocahontas, nephews Michael Holloway of Illinois and Michael Loggins of California. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to John 3:16 Ministries, 75 Holmes Road, Charlotte, AR. 72522 or Brookland Baptist Church, 200 N Oak St., Brookland, AR 72417. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 from 5-7pm at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas. The funeral will take place on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 at 10am at McNabbs with Roger Hovis and Bill Beckham officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service in Randolph Memorial Gardens.
