Mountain Brook, AL - Mary Martin Barnes/Mrs. Olin B Barnes, Jr. age 90 and a long time resident of Mountain Brook, AL. was called home Wednesday December 28, 2016. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Olin B Barnes, Jr. and her in-laws Olin B. Sr. and Aline Kelley Barnes all of Mountain Brook, AL. Her parents Zack W and Lucille Prudhomme Martin; her sister Margie Martin Croslin, brother-in-law Leonard W. Croslin and her brother Jimmy R. Martin, Sr. all of Shreveport, LA.

Mary is survived by her son, Olin B Barnes, III; daughter Kelley Barnes Frank(Mike); and grandson Jackson A. Walters all of Mountain Brook, AL as well as a host of nieces, nephew and their children of Mountain Brook, AL, Shreveport, LA and TX.

Mary began her life in Shreveport, LA. where she was a graduate of Byrd High school. She also attended Centenary College for a banking degree while working at 1st National Bank of Shreveport. She was in charge of the Analysis department. Mary met her husband to be Olin B. Barnes while he was briefly stationed at Barksdale Air Force in Bossier City, LA. during his tour in World War II. He was soon transferred to Ramey Air force base in San Juan, Puerto Rico where they continued their courtship long distance. They wrote letters to each other daily.

After Olin's enlistment was up he returned home to Mountain Brook, AL where he began his career. Soon after he proposed and she accepted. They were married April 9, 1954 in Shreveport, LA but returned to the Mountain Brook area where they started their life together.

Mary was involved in many clubs and organizations. She was a long time member of Independent Presbyterian Church, Hill-N-Dale Garden Club, Silhouettes Dance Club, YWCA and the Country Club of Birmingham. Mary was also very active in her children's school organizations and held several offices in the PTO and was a Room Mother among many other positions.

Mary had the precious heart of an angel and touched so many lives while here on Earth. Her love of her children, grandson and some special nieces and nephew and their children was enduring. Mary's other passions were her land in the country in Shreveport, LA, sailing in the Gulf of Mexico, and staying in their home in Dauphin Island. She also had a love of birds, flowers, nature and animals. Some of her favorite charities were ASPCA/Local Humane Society, disabled Veterans, The Indian Children in South Dakota, The Shriner's Hospital for Children as well as many others.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Vincent's Hospital, Fairhaven and St. Martin's in the Pines Nursing Home and Rehab.
