Gene was born in Brooksville, Florida in 1935. He was a devoted father and husband.
A 1962 finance graduate of the University of Florida at Gainesville, he was a lifelong avid fan of Gator football and basketball, always eagerly anticipating the beginning of college football season. He held various positions in the Tennessee Valley Authority, including Executive Secretary of the TVA Retirement System.
Preceded in death by his son Gregory Eugene Stephens, parents Hamilton and Helen Stephens, sisters Willie Mae Caldwell and Lucille Taylor.
Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m., Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Tennessee State Veterans’ Cemetery, 2201 E. Gov. John Sevier Highway 37920, for a 2:00 p.m. interment. Visitation will follow Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Service of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m., Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
