Roger D. Lawson, 87, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Jan. 5, 2017, at the Davis Hospice Center.

Roger was born on June 21, 1929, in Denver, a son of the late Paul and Minnie (Detwiller) Lawson.

Roger served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 44 years, starting as a billing clerk and retiring as an engineer. His many interests included woodworking, camping and traveling. He will be remembered as a prankster who loved to tell jokes and as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Gary James and Jerry James; two infant grandsons, Jeremy McCain and Eric James; a brother, Norman Lawson; and a sister-in-law, Nicki Lawson.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Irene (Klein) Lawson; six children, Sharron (Glen) Thompson, Roger (Marlene) Lawson Jr., Connie Breach, Bill (Diane) James and Judy Kosmicki; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Cheyenne. Cremation was chosen. Burial will be in the spring at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors. Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home, Cheyenne, is in charge of arrangements.
