James M. "Big Jim" Rogers, 55, of Brazil, passed away at Union Hospital, Jan. 7, 2017, following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1961, in Marion County, Ind., the son of Gerald "Pop" and Frances "Jody" Joanne (Deck) Rogers.
Big Jim graduated from Cloverdale High School. Following high school he began working with the Indiana Department of Corrections at Putnamville State Farm. He also worked for Wishard Ambulance, in Indianapolis, Star Ambulance in Crawfordsville, and Care Ambulance in Indianapolis. He was the owner/operator of P.P.C. Ambulance in Brazil. He also was a volunteer fireman with Reelsville V.F.D., Posey V.F.D., Honey Creek V.F.D., Brazil Search and Rescue and he served as a volunteer EMT with the Putnamville Park Road Course.
In his free time he enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, camping, building "stuff" and spending time with his grandson, Landon.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Arabella Myers; and two brothers, Bill Rogers and Dan Rogers.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Kathy (McGrew) Rogers of Brazil, a son, Andrew Michael Rogers of Greencastle; and a daughter, Kathleen Rogers (Tyler Myers) of Brazil; a grandson, Landon Myers of Brazil; a brother, Jerry "Cook" Rogers of Worthington; two sisters, Jamie Reese of Gosport and Susan Hebert and husband Bobby of Spencer; as well as many friends and extended family members.
Visitation for Big Jim will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 East National Ave., Brazil, Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, from 4 until 8 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
