Mr. Barton attended Northwester University where he studied architecture. He spent 40 years as a United States Government architect, designing buildings not only in Des Moines, but all over the world. His last commission was for improvements at Fort Des Moines army post.

He was survived by his wife, two sisters, and a brother, F. E. Barton of San Rafael CA. (I did find a Frank E. Barton buried in San Rafael (1855-1946) but could not confirm this was in fact his brother.)
