Alice Marena Massie of Colfax, WI, formerly of Park Rapids, MN peacefully passed into eternity on Thursday December 22, 2016 with her daughter at her side at the Colfax Health & Rehabilitation Center in Colfax, WI.
Alice was born on April 4, 1928 in Fort Ripley, MN to Charles & Minnie (Brown) Weekley. As a girl, her family moved to a farm south of Park Rapids, where Alice attended Menahga Public Schools,graduating from Menahga High School, with the class of 1946. As a young woman, Alice worked as a waitress in Park Rapids where she met a young decorated war hero, Wayne Massie. Wayne had just returned from the European Theatre of WWII after the war had ended. On April 19, 1947, Alice and Wayne were united in marriage at the First English Lutheran Church In Dorset, MN. They were blessed with a daughter, Veda. Alice devoted herself to making a loving home for her husband and daughter. In 1956, Alice and Wayne moved to Minneapolis where she gained employment working at a retail store. In 1969, they moved to Florida where Alice gained employment as a pre-school teacher. In October of 1998, they ventured northward, to Amery, WI, where they retired. Wayne was diagnosed with cancer in April of 1998. Alice cared for him, with the help of her daughter until the time of his passing in February of 1999. After her husband’s death in 2001, Alice moved to Menomonie, WI where she resided until 2007, when failing health caused her to become a resident of the Colfax Health & Rehabilitation Center. Throughout her life, Alice loved to garden, work on crafts, & take camping trips with her family. Alice was a strong woman of faith. She enjoyed attending church throughout her lifetime.
Alice is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Veda (Dale) Kiekhoefer of Colfax, WI, grandson, Al (Becky) Kiekhoefer, of Anoka MN, great granddaughters, Talia, & Evelyn Kiekhoefer, nieces, nephews, & many other relatives & friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; 2 brothers: Clifford & Harvey; and one sister, Lillian.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with Rev. Loren Ferch officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery. A luncheon will be hosted by the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post #212 Auxilliary.
