Matthew was from Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, where he attended Wisconsin Rapids Moravian Church. He attended Lincoln High School where he was on the wrestling, football and weightlifting teams. He placed 11th in the Wisconsin State Power lifting championships his junior year. He graduated with honors in 2004 and began working for Reffner Motor Sports in Steven's Point Wisconsin unloading racing cars and getting them ready for the next race. The racing team was that of his cousin, Bryan Feffner, the 1995 champion of the American Speed Association. Matt joined the United States Army on September 14, 2004 and was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, as a Task Force Lightning Soldier and was based out of Fort Bliss, Texas. He was deployed to Iraq in October of 2006 and had recently been promoted to Corporal. Matthew is survived by his parents, Eldon W. and Jean M. (Johnson) Grimm, a brother Andrew, who is also deployed in Iraq as a member of The Wisconsin National Guard; paternal grandparents, Victor and Kathryn Grimm of Wisconsin Rapids and many aunts, uncles and cousins. His maternal grandparents, Ruth and John Johnson, preceded him in death. Matthew was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Posthumous; two Purple Hearts, Posthumous; Army Good Conduct Medal, Posthumous; National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Combat Action Badge, Posthumous and Weapons Qualification Badge.
