Herschel Clifford Baines was born on December 20, 1913 in New York County, New York. died March 10, 2009, in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, at the age of 95. Herschel enlisted in the United States Army in 1940 and served honorably until 1944. In 1946, he moved to New York City and drove a Taxi Cab for years. He owned a photograpy studio in the Bronx. He met and married Dorothy Troupe in October, 1962. Herschel worked for the New York Transit from 1950 until his retirement in 1976. The same year of his retirement in 1976, Herschel and Dorothy moved to Melbourne, Florida. Herschel was the Bridge Coordinator and Chairman of the AARP for twelve years. In his spare time, Herschel enjoyed watching documentaries, was an avid reader, enjoyed working in his yard, and loved doing crossword puzzles.
