College and professional football player. After setting the Owatonna High School scoring record in 1923 with 89 points, Herb Joesting became known as the "Owatonna Thunderbolt." After high school, he enrolled at the University of Minnesota, playing fullback and halfback on the Golden Gophers from 1925 to 1927. He was a consensus All-American in 1926 and 1927. He was recognized for his talents by being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954. After leaving the University of Minnesota, he joined the Minneapolis Red Jackets as a player/coach in 1929. He played with them in nine games in 1930, before being traded to another NFL team, the Frankford Yellow Jackets. He played for Frankford and the Chicago Bears in 1931, finishing up with the Bears in 1932.
