Billie L Brown, 79, Humboldt, Kansas, formerly a Parsons, Kansas resident, died at Sunday, July 2, 2006, at his home.

He was born Jan. 24, 1927, in St. Paul, Kansas, to Leo and Musa (Schofield) Brown.

He grew up in Parsons and graduated from Parsons High School.

During World War II he served in the United States Army in the Phillipine Islands.

He also attended college one year at the University of Missouri at Rolla while serving in the Army.

On July 10, 1947, he married Alfreda M. Bolander at the Washington Avenue Methodist Church in Parsons. She preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2006.

He was an electrician by trade and worked many years in doing construction projects. In 1974 he moved to Humboldt and worked as maintenance electrician for the Monarch Cement Co. until his retirement in 1989.

He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Humboldt and had served on its board of trustees several years. He was a member and past president of the United Methodist Men. When the present church facility was constructed he served as the church's general contractor. He also served on the board of the Humboldt Library and was active in the Biblesta organization in Humboldt. He was an avid worker in home remodeling and repair projects, especially in helping others in this manner. He loved doing woodworking and carpentry and gardening.

In 2005 he was honored with the Dr. Long Community Service Award in Humboldt.

He is survived by a son, Larry Brown and his wife Patty of Wichita, KS, daughter Karen Parker and her husband Leland of Maple Valley, WA; brother, Kenneth "Butch" Brown of Colorado Springs, CO, sister Ramona Nielsen of Wichita, KS; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Brown.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, Kansas, with the Rev. Debby Dick officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons, Kansas.
