Jonathan William Carver, 47, Olathe, KS, passed away Jan. 3, 2017. He is survived by mother, Patricia Carver (Olathe) and brother, Daniel Carver and two nephews (Denver, CO). He is preceded in death by his father, William R. Carver.
Jon was born in Merriam, KS with a birth defect known as Spina Bifida. Although he was paralyzed from the waist down, he learned to walk with crutches and became active in the Kansas City Wheelchair Athletic Association. He played wheelchair basketball with the Kansas City Purples and ran races in his wheelchair.
Jon graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1988. He most enjoyed fishing with his father at local lakes and traveled to Canada on several fishing excursions. He was also an avid sports fan, always following the Royals and Chiefs.
He enjoyed traveling when he was able, taking cruises and visiting family in Colorado. Jon never allowed his disability to limit his life. He worked at times as an Activity Director in nursing homes where he enjoyed helping others.
Jon’s courage and positive spirit impressed the many friends he’s left behind.
A funeral service will be held at Westside Family Church, 8500 Woodsonia Dr., Lenexa, KS, 66227, on Monday, January 9. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A short burial will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Rd. Kansas City, MO, 64131
