They called him a "gentle man."
On Feb. 17, 2005, we said goodbye and Godspeed to Clifford Anderson, who resided at the Beehive Homes in Coeur d'Alena.
Clifford was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He was born April 19, 1906, to immigrant parents, Hans D. and Maren (Martinsen) Anderson in Monowi, Neb. Clifford attended and graduated valedictorian from Ravinia High School, then attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.
On Oct. 3, 1928, Clifford married Rose Petrik, and to this union, three children were born - one daughter and two sons. His first wife preceded him in death in 1973.
On May 20, 1974, he married Isabelle Gullickson of Spearfish, S.D., where they resided for 25 years. Isabelle preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2000.
Clifford was a master carpenter. He played piano and organ without formal training and enjoyed many years playing drums with the senior citizens band in Spearfish. Clifford was active in church and senior citizen activities, and lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and Isaac Walton League of Lake Andes, S.D.
Clifford's life was dedicated to his family, step-family and friends. His spirit and commitment to them was a blessing and an inspiration to all who knew him. He was gentle and patient, and always had a kind word for everyone. He will be forever loved and missed.
He is survived by one daughter, one son, two stepdaughters, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
His beloved son, Clifford James, devoted wives Rose and Isabelle, and eight brothers and two sisters (one in infancy) preceded him in death.
Memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at a later date, with a private family service at the Custer Cemetery in Custer, S.D. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel, is handling arrangements.
