Morgan M. Grant, age 82, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 13, 2016 in Fort Myers, FL. He was born December 12, 1933 to Mildred and Harold Grant in Manchester, CT, where he lived his entire life until retiring to South Hero, VT and Fort Myers. Morgan attended Manchester High School and graduated from Sanborn Seminary preparatory school in Kingston, NH. He received his associate degree in horticulture from the University of New Hampshire and, as owner/operator of Grantland Nursery in Manchester, he developed a reputation across the state for his landscaping talent. Just after starting his new business, Morgan was drafted into the U.S. Army and participated in the Yucca Flats, AZ atomic bomb testing. Upon his return to civilian life, he married his best friend's kid sister, Marjorie Kurtz, on April 21, 1957. fledgling trees grew in the nursery, so did his family with the arrival of three daughters; Jennifer, Jeanne and Jill. Morgan had fond memories of his many years spent at both Manchester and Hideaway Country Clubs and was a life member of The Elks. Over the years, he spent many wonderful days skiing at Sugarbush in VT and golfing in CT and FL with this buddies. Fishing with the guys on Thursdays and laughing with his pals at the patio in the late afternoons was comradely he valued very dearly. Memories of Morgan live on in the many stained glass lamps he created and the beautiful flowers he lovingly planted and cared for at The Hideaway. Most of all, he will be remembered fondly by anyone who knew him for the humor he brought to any gathering and his flair for story-telling. Over the years, his classic tales grew in proportion and grandeur, always founded in fact but usually greatly embellished to enhance their entertainment value. Morgan is survived by his wife, Marge, of 59 years and his three daughters, all of Vermont; Jennifer Grant, Jeanne Hebert Grant, and Jill McKenzie along with her husband, Steve. He also leaves his brothers Fred and Olin; seven grandchildren: Kristin, Lauren, Grant, Allison, Kara, Elizabeth and Stephen; two great-grandsons: Bennett and Mason; a special nephew, Matt Grant; his beloved sisters-in-law: Debbie Creighton, Marilyn Hunniford and Priscilla Kurtz; and treasured brothers-in-law: Ted Creighton, Rich Kurtz, and Bill Hunniford.
