Jessie Mae Taylor Hood, 92, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Aug. 19, 1910, in Calhoun County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was active in the WMU and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a retired teacher for the Calhoun County School System. She was named Calhoun County's Teacher of the Year before retiring and in 1973 was named an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City with the Rev. Billy Wayne Baker and the Rev. Jimmy Vance officiating. Burial will be in Oak Springs Cemetery in Derma.

Survivors include two sons, Dannis Edward Hood and wife, Anita, of Lafayette, Ga., and Charles Hood and wife, Dianne, of Derma; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lake Hood; her parents, Jesse Clinton Taylor and Maudie Mae Simpson Taylor; and a brother, Dana Taylor.

Pallbearers will be Howard Smith, James Wright, James Ellis Simpson, Bradley Hood, John Hood and Wes Lowe.
