Roy William Hunter, age 93 of Douglasville, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017. He was born on March 2, 1923 in Paulding County, the son of the late Lester Hunter and Nellie Austin Hunter. Roy served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. He retired with 41 years of service from Sears & Roebuck Co. where he was an inspector. He was a Mason for 50 plus years with Douglasville Masonic. Roy was a member of Sunset Hills Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen Ruth Hesterlee; brothers: Lawrence Hunter, Rayford Hunter and Ernest Hunter; sisters: Betty Jean Walton and Sara Garmon.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Hunter Pope and her husband, Butch Pope of Douglasville, GA; son: Tony L. Hunter and his wife, Kitty Strickland Hunter of Lithia Springs, GA.; grandchildren: Greg Pope and wife, Cindy, Matt Pope and wife, Laura, Brad Hunter and wife, Rachel; great grandchildren: Andrew Pope, Will Pope, Kristen Pope, Jennifer Pope and Ryan Pope, Dawson Hunter, Brayden Hunter, Paityn Hunter; sisters: Ruth McTyre, Joyce Brown, Anne Williams; brother: Charles Hunter and wife, JoAnn; numerous nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. from Hightower's Memorial Chapel in Douglasville, GA with Rev. Ikey Watson and Rev. Greg Pope officiating.
There will be a private family interment following the service at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
