Mary E. "Betsy" Belflower, 83, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be private for family only in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Baxter Hurley officiating. The family will greet friends from Noon until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hills Road, Macon GA 31210 or Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon GA 31210.
She was born in McAlister, Oklahoma to the late Phil and Mary Elizabeth King Thompson. She moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma in the 1st grade and graduated from Central High in Muskogee in 1951. She kept in close contact with many of her high school friends even as they moved to different areas. She enjoyed and attended most of their class reunions in Muskogee. She was in Oklahoma State College when she relocated to Atlanta in 1952 with her parents, Phil and Mary Elizabeth Thompson. She married Willie Crews in 1953 and moved to Macon. After being a homemaker for several years and raising her 2 children, she began work at Sears and retired after 18 years in the Personnel Office. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Crews after 35 years of marriage. She married Horace Belflower in 1992. They enjoyed many activities together and especially enjoyed spending summers and other visits to their cabin in Todd NC, after 17 ½ years of marriage she was preceded in death Horace in 2009.
Her many interests include bowling in a Monday and Thursday morning Senior Bowling league, a bridge club for many years and activities at her church. She was a Charter Member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and a member of the Grace Bible Class. She was active in the Senior Choir and the Tuesday afternoon Dominoe group. She enjoyed all the activities of the Senior Group (Good Times) at Forest Hills United Methodist Church.
