Vera Elizabeth Wood born April 6, 1924, daughter of John and Lois Jennings Wagner died January 3, 2017 being called to a higher world and to higher enjoyment. Her passing leaves emptiness for the many who loved, admired and respected her. She is survived by two brothers – Ronald (Gail) Wagner of South Webster and Keith (Shirley) Wagner of Wheelersburg; two daughters – Gwen (Bill) Grant and Sharon (David) Dodd; five grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; four great great grandsons and one great great granddaughter; sister-in-law, Kay Wagner and her “side-kick” niece, Tanya Baldridge; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by four sisters, Claudia Wagner, Mable Craft, Ena Mae Riggs and Emma Ruth Davis, a brother, Franklin (Johnny ) Wagner, two husbands, Ralph Angell in 1952 and Joseph Wood in 1974.

Vera was known as Sis, Lib, Libby and Miss Elizabeth. She was an independent and determined individual who was generous, loving and active; she was known for giving and for doing rather than just talking. She always looked forward with a positive attitude rather than looking back. She resided in Wheelersburg, Baltimore, Akron, returning to Wheelersburg in retirement. Always a hard worker and good provider for her two daughters, she worked in a cannery, making military sleeping bags and shipyard in Baltimore, at the A plant, Sears, Williams Shoe Factory and sold real estate in Portsmouth area. After 30 years she retired as manager of Fabric Fair in Akron and worked for a community organization. During the past 25 years following retirement she belonged to the Golden Bears, Nature Club, Slocum Garden Club serving in leadership positions, the Eastern Star and the Corner Stone Nazarene Church. Vera was active in special groups at church as well as having been instrumental in landscaping and caring for the new landscape. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed a history course at Shawnee State. She was grateful for the opportunity to exercise at Shawnee State and was often seen in fundraiser walks for the American Heart Association, Breast Cancer, and Hospice. She was most often found working in her vegetable and flower garden and more recently her interest in politics has kept her near the TV.

A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted April 7, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at the Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene in Wheelersburg, OH. Dinner will follow.
