Death record:
FAHEY EDWARD 5486/1901 JOHN NORAH GRANVILLE

Mr. Edward Fahey, Granville
Last week, at his quiet home in Granville, there passed away one of the true pioneers of Australia in the person of Mr. Edward Fahey, formerly of Appin. This esteemed citizen had reached the ripe old age of 82 years, and was the last of six brothers who arrived in New South Wales as far back as 1840. There are few, if any, alive to-day who were shipmates of these sturdy Irishmen, in the good ship United Kingdom and perhaps none of her company have left such a permanent monument behind them, for their descendants to date exceed a thousand persons. The first home of the Faheys was Denham Court, near Liverpool, where they found ready employment, but after a short engagement they struck out for themselves and settled in the district of Appin, where several branches of the family still remain. Mr. Fahey was a native of Ballymacward, County Galway, and to the last was an ardent Home Ruler. He was a witness to many stirring scenes in his own country, and lived to see Australia transformed from a mare convict settlement — without railways or telephones — to a great Commonwealth. His splendid record will be preserved whilst memory remains to those who were acquainted with him, and his worthy life may well be emulated by all who bear his name. He was a good Catholic, and received the consolations of Holy Church before he passed away. R.I.P.
