Obit from Mssenger of Truth Issue 21, 1982:
My wife, our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Susie Koehn Base, was born to Dave and Eva Schmidt Koehn on March 21, 1906, near Longdale, Oklahoma. She peacefully passed away September 8, 1982, at Moundridge Manor, Moundridge, Kansas, reaching the age of 76 years, 5 months, and I8 days.
Mother spent her first twenty-one years in Oklahoma, attending school in Locust Grove, near Isabella, Oklahoma. Then her family moved to Cimarron, Kansas. Mother answered the call to repentance and, upon the confession of her faith, was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, remaining faithful unto the end.
Mother married Ben J. Base, a widower with four children, on August 5, 1934. They made their home in the Galva area, moving to Burns for two years and returning to the Canton-Galva area. This union was blessed with four sons. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for forty-eight years. Mother's last two years were spent at Moundridge Manor because of ill health.
Mother was a devoted wife and mother, caring well for her household. Mother had a quiet disposition. She spent much time with her needlework. She enjoyed being visited by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Ben; the children: Cecil and wife Maggie, Hume, Missouri: Ralph and wife Lavada, Galva, Kansas; Verbie and husband David Koehn, Livingston, California; Gilmer and wife Alice, Rich Hill, Missouri; Eldon and wife Sharon, Oakdale, California; Jona and wife Karen, McPherson, Kansas; Paul and wife Linda, Springdale, Arkansas; two sisters; five brothers; nineteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her parents; three sisters; two brothers; and one son, Harry, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held September 11, 1982, at the Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Galva, Kansas, with Min. Orville Koehn and Min. Herman Nightingale officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.
