Linda Canipe Stout was a daughter of Edward Canipe and Edna Bumgardner Canipe of Gaston Co., NC. She was married to Richard Alan Stout, who predeceased her. They were parents of a son Shane Stout (wife Tami), Matthews, NC. She was survived by her son and grandchildren: Colleen Boylen, Matthews, NC; Kendra Brown, Wilmington, DE; great-grandson, Jack Boylen; siblings: Betty Canipe Ferguson, Dottie Canipe Beveridge; Jerry Canipe, Shirley Canipe Carter; Beverly Canipe Cloer; and Elaine Canipe, multiple beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by siblings: Helen Canipe Baee; Kenneth canipe; Jack Canipe; Carol Canipe; Margaret Canipe and Mildred Canipe.
Linda graduated from Holbrook High School, Lowell, NC, Carson-Newman College; Appalachian State University and UNC Charlotte. She retired after 44 years of service with the Gaston County Schools. She taught at South Gastonia Elementary School, Chapel Grove Elementary and Woodhill Elementary, in addition to her duties as an administrator with the Department of Exceptional Children. Linda was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Gastonia and Ranlo Baptist Church, Ranlo, NC.GASTONIA -- Linda Canipe Stout, 72, died Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Ranlo Township in Gaston County and the daughter of the late Edward Canipe and Edna Bumgardner Canipe.

A memorial service will be held in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia, 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2012 with Dr. Doug-las Aldrich officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Interment will be private.

Linda retired after 44 years of service with the Gaston County Schools. At retirement she was an administrator with the Dept. of Exceptional Children. She graduated from Holbrook High School in 1957 and went on to attend Carson-Newman College graduating in 1961. She received a Master's Degree in Education from Appalachian State University and an Administration Degree from UNC-Charlotte.

In 1964 she married Richard Alan Stout. Linda's love of children and families led her to a life long career in teaching. She began teaching in 1961 at South Gastonia Elementary School taking additional classroom roles at Chapel Grove Elementary and Woodhill Elementary. Her excellence in the classroom led to her being asked to help establish the Department of Exceptional Children for Gaston County Schools where she trained and men-tored a generation of teachers and administrators. Linda was a talented artist, devoted wife and mother and an active community volunteer. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Gastonia and Ranlo Baptist.

Survivors include her son, Shane Stout and daughter-in-law, Tami Stout of Matthews; grandchildren, Colleen Boylen of Matthews, Kendra Brown of Wilmington, Del.; great-grandson, Jack Boylen; siblings, Betty Ferguson, Dottie Beveridge, Jerry Canipe, Shirley Carter, Beverly Cloer and Elaine Canipe; multiple beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Alan Stout, siblings, Helen Abee, Kenneth Canipe, Jack Canipe, Carol Canipe, Margaret Canipe and Mildred Canipe.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Western Carolina.
