Kenneth E. Shaffer, 94, of New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Worthington, died Monday, January 2, 2017, at Home Sweet Home Assisted Living in New Port Richey, Fla.

Born April 13, 1922, in South Bethlehem, he was the son of Jacob T. and Ruth (Procious) Shaffer.

He was married to Claire Allyne Gaiser for 70 years. She survives.

Mr. Shaffer served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Worthington for many years. Mr. Shaffer retired from Eljer Company in Ford City, having been employed there for 37 years. He was a former Boy Scout leader and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Shaffer liked hunting and fishing, and loved all of his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Donna (Don) McBride of Nebraska; a son, Philip (Brenda) Shaffer of Florida; four grandchildren, Kelly John McFarland, Bryan Kenneth McFarland, Erica Bogardus and Loren Bellante; two great-grandchildren, Michael Jacob McFarland and Lee Jacob Bogardus; a brother, Jack Shaffer; and a sister, Dorothy Cornish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emogene Cornman.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, January 6, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home in Worthington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the funeral home with the Rev. Dorothy Worth officiating.

Interment will be in Worthington Lutheran Cemetery.
