She was preceded in death by her husband, James Vernon Boren Sr., who passed away in 1992. Barbara's loving spirit was passed on to her family.
She enjoyed entertaining, and her home was the center of many gatherings over the years. Everyone was family to her and it didn't matter whether they were formally related. When her five children were young, she loved to camp at Dinkey Creek and the Huntington Lake area. She could fry up freshly caught trout in an instant and her camp breakfasts would keep you filled all day. After the children left the house, she and Vern, would travel by motor home to campsites all over the west. She liked to go to Reno to gamble and see shows, and was an avid music fan with a wide range of musical tastes. Even into her 80s, Barbara would see shows in Reno and Las Vegas.
Barbara is survived by a brother, Edwin Capps and his wife Beverly; a son, James Boren; a son, Greg Bishop and his wife Donna; a son, Eddie Bishop and his wife Linda; a daughter, Kim Boren; and a son, Michael Boren and his wife Therese; 14 grandchildren, Eric Bishop, David Bishop, Wade McClung, Brooks McClung, Dylan Bishop, Kaidie Nisbett, Marissa Boren, Kelly Bishop Burns, Amie Nisbett, Justin Bishop, Michael Boren, Brian Boren, Jacob Martinez and Gigi Martinez; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 1525 Saginaw Way, Fresno, CA 93704, on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at New Hope Community Church, 4620 E. Nees Ave., Clovis, CA, on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.
