Born second of five children to Joseph Gale Houston and Rula Dalley Houston.

From a very young age Bob would always wear some type of cap/hat wherever he went. He was quickly nicknamed "Hood". He grew up winters in Panguitch, and summers at their family farm 5 miles north of Panguitch Ut. While living on the farm Bob's mother taught him to make country gravy which Bob became world famous for as he made the country gravy every morning at Houston's Trails End Restaurant in Kanab UT.

Bob's industry and hard work began to show at a very young age. When he was just 8 years old he would go with his father north of Panguitch to tend sheep. At 11 he started delivering the Salt Lake Tribune to about half the town of Panguitch. At 13 he started a job making bricks at a plant located in town. He worked in the potato fields weeding them and then at harvest time he worked putting the potatoes in baskets in the field. At 17 he worked on a threshing machine that traveled around the area ding threshing for the farmers.

After graduating from Garfield Co. High School in May 1940 he went to San Diego and worked making manifolds for the radial aircraft engines. He was inducted into the Army in April 1943 at Ft.Douglas in SLC, basic at Camp Cooke CA then sent to Knoxville TN to begin flight training. He served in the Philippines where he was a truck and jeep driver and after the war ended he continued to serve there until Feb 1945 then honorably discharged.

After the army he returned to driving truck hauling produce from Phoenix to SLC. In less than a years time he met Emma Dee Orton by knocking her down while roller skating. That was the beginning of a seventy year love story that grew stronger every day of their lives. They were married May 8, 1948 in Fredonia, AZ. Emma was 17 and Bob was 26.

They continued to haul produce from Phoenix to SLC until their first son Robert Dee was born. They then moved to Flagstaff AZ where he started driving truck from Flagstaff to Houserock AZ. Bob became the envy of all the women in the housing tract where they lived. He could be seen hanging out the laundry and one who always opened the door for his sweetheart. Shirley, their first daughter was born on Feb 21, 1951 and their final child Joe Daniel was born on Oct 6, 1954. After refusing to transfer to Oregon Bob started driving for Kaibab Lumber Co. in Flagstaff.

Bob was actively involved in building the new LDS church in Flagstaff, all of his spare time was working on the building.

In 1966 he was transferred to Kanab UT where he continued to drive truck until he retired in 1990. He joined the family restaurant business full-time and became the King of country gravy. He was an active member of the LDS church and served in a wide variety of callings.

Bob absolutely treasured all of his grandchildren and each one has stories of their special time. Throughout their marriage Bob treated Emma like royalty.

Bob is survived by his wife Emma, children Robert Dee, Shirley and Joe Daniel; brother Herman Jack Houston and sister Karen Tebbs. He has 13 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchldren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 grandchild and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral services held Jan 5th and the Kanab Utah Stake Center downtown. Arrangements are being handled by Mosdell Mortuary.
