Jerry Lee Dickens 1940—2017
Jerry Lee Dickens, 76, of Belvidere, IL went to be with the Lord Monday, January 2, 2017, surrounded by his family, at his home. Jerry was a strong fighter and battled cancer for almost 7 years. He was born July 23, 1940, in Washington, IN; the son of the late Daniel and Grace (Cook) Dickens. A 1959 graduate of Washington High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps and served 27 months in Alaska at Ft. Richardson. A member of Bible Baptist Church where he faithfully served in many areas for over 48 years. Jerry was retired from Danaher in Marengo, IL after 36 years of service. He loved to fish, garden, and spend time with his family. He was married for over 57 years to his high school sweetheart, Judith (Weaver) Dickens. Together they had 4 children, Roger (Joanna) Dickens, Joni (Jacky) Abernathy, Angela (Jeff) Sawallisch, and Jon (Melissa) Dickens; there are 9 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are his siblings, Carolyn Kent, Mary (Earl) Brosman, Linda (Les) Thurston, and Larry Joe Dickens. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Bobby Dickens.
There will be a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Bible Baptist Church, 5831 Tripp Rd., Belvidere, IL 61008. Visitation also from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017, at the church. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., concluding with interment in Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bible Baptist Church. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.belviderefh.com.
