Janet Arlene Ellis, 80, of Sedalia formerly of Laurie, MO, passed away Monday, January 2, 2017 at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born on October 5, 1936 in Wellsville, New York the daughter of Edward Curtis and Thelma Bevus (Wilcox) Lathrop, who preceded her in death.
On March 26, 1957 in New York she was united in marriage to George Deane Ellis, who preceded her in death on January 31, 2001.
Janet was the choir director for Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach, MO for many years. She helped with the organization and creation of the Kent Columbarium at the church. She also enjoyed volunteering with STAFF and various other not for profit organizations. Janet was very musically gifted and loved to play the piano, sing, oil paintings and especially loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Harris of Sedalia and Tacy McGuire (Jerry) of Sedalia; a daughter-in-law, Jennie Ellis of Versailles; seven grandchildren Travis Harris, Sam Ellis, Joseph Ellis, Jessica Gerlt, Josh Warnke, Brandi Stone, and Dustin Stone; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Ed Lathrop of Florida.
Besides her husband Deane and her parents, she is also preceded in death by a son, Pat Ellis and a sister, Peggy Grover.
A private family memorial service will be held at Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach, MO at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Janet to a charity of the donor’s choice in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
