Sheffield Township- Ernest “Big Jim” Phillips Jr., 59, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 30, 2016 at his home. He was born on March 20, 1957 in Elyria, OH.

Big Jim graduated from Clearview High School. He worked at Ford Motor Company in Lorain prior to his career with Sheffield Township Street Department where he worked for twenty years. Big Jim owned Lowes Auto Wrecking in Lorain for twenty-nine years. He loved spending time with his family and he was devoted to his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his children, Teddy Barker, Douglas Barker, Jack (Cindy Koroski) Barker, Angelo Colombo, Ernest “Jimmy” (Ashlee) Phillips III, Corey (Leah) Phillips, Lauren (Dennis) Behringer, and Megan Stephens; father, Ernest “Ernie” Phillips; sister, Denise (Clinton) Simmons; brother, Elmer (Liz) Phillips; companion of twenty-five years, Charlin Maynard; eleven grandchildren; and many loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia B. (nee Landy) Phillips in 1992; and son, Andrew Charles Barker in 1999.

Big Jim’s memory will be cherished always by those that knew him and those he helped at the end of his life with a final gift through Lifebanc.

The family will receive friends at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Tnsp. 440-324-3371 on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Aaron Webb, officiating. Interment to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, OH
