Gary Ray Burgess 70 of Jacksonville died December 28, 2016 at his home. Gary was born August 28, 1946 in Mount Vernon, IL to the late Loren and Barbara Wood Burgess and after graduation joined the United Marine Corps and served in Vietnam receiving the Purple heart, retiring as a Staff Sergeant and was a faithful Member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday January 3, 2016 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors and with the Reverend Daniel Flynn officiating. Surviving; wife, Judy Gurganus Burgess and three sons; Kent, Mark and Jason, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church family life building fund, 100 Half Moon Church Road, Jacksonville NC 28546 or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
